Bird of Paradise 9 Inch Foundation Pieced Quilt Block Pattern

Instant Digital Download

The Bird of Paradise is a striking and colourful flower and makes a beautiful yet surprisingly simple Quilt Block using the foundation paper piecing method. When combined with other flower blocks it makes a beautiful Lap Quilt for mothers day or as an embellishment for a tote bag!

This 9 Inch block is one in a series of 6 flower blocks which were designed by Kohatu Patterns as part of the Grandmother's Garden Lap Quilt for Online Quilt Magazine. The series and quilt were inspired by my own Nana's garden!

Each of the blocks in this series are 9" square and are fully foundation paper pieced. They have been each individually featured in Online Quilt Magazine during 2019.

This pattern contains coloured foundation templates, a black and white design/colouring template and comprehensive written instructions for putting the template pieces together. The Tulip, Bird of Paradise and Iris are simpler patterns, whilst the Rose, Daffodil and Pansy are more complex.

Pattern purchasers may sew finished items from my patterns for both personal use and small-scale production for sales at local markets and online. It should not be mass produced. When selling online, credit to Kohatu Patterns is most appreciated; however, it is not essential. Patterns should not be copied or re-distributed to others without the express permission of Kohatu Patterns.

Frequently Asked Questions

I found a mistake in one of your patterns, what can I do about it?

Each of my patterns has been developed with care and tested by multiple people. However, if you find a mistake in one of my patterns, please send me an email containing a photo of the mistake or detailed description (page number and problem) within 30 days of your original purchase. I will not only refund your purchase, but will also provide you with another pattern free of charge as well as a corrected copy of the pattern you originally purchased when it becomes available.

The pattern I purchased does not list fabric requirements - Is this a mistake?

It's not a mistake. Most of my patterns are Foundation Pieced Patterns and Fabric requirements can vary greatly depending on your technique, experience and level of skill.
I have found that most people like to use scraps from their stash or Fat Quarters to make smaller Foundation Pieced blocks.
Large Patterns and Patterns that are not Foundation Pieced will have a list fabric requirements.

I cant seem to access or download my pattern. What can I do?

The item you have purchased is digital in nature. I highly recommend you download it immediately after purchase and save a copy of this file to your computer for future use. However if something goes wrong and for some reason you can no longer access your pattern, email me with a copy of your receipt, date of purchase or Etsy order number and I will send you another copy as soon as I can.
